Design competition

The NeZeR project has arranged a series of design competitions and training workshops focusing on Nearly Zero Energy concepts. The competitions have been organized in each participating country. The design competitions will improve knowledge in the building chain and among institutional housing owners regarding Nearly Zero Energy Building Renovation. Here you can read the "Report on design competitions".

In each country a specific renovation challenge has been formulated, in line with the national focus in the NeZeR project. There were different options for the competition, depending on the availability of renovation projects in each city:

  • A contest between existing already renovated cases
  • A competition on new Nearly Zero Energy Building Renovation designs

The planning of the competitions has been assisted by the Dutch social housing association Portaal who will share their experience with other participating countries. Portaal organized a very successful Dutch competition aiming at Zero-Energy-Bill houses for social housing, the Nianesto competition (www.nianesto.nl). The target of the Nianesto competition was to prepare a design for a new house that would have a zero energy bill.
